SUMMARY:Speaker - Nik Rave
DESCRIPTION:Nik Rev will present “Visitors” \nNik Rave is a Winnipeg‑based professional photographer and visual artist\, working under the brand NIK RAVE PHOTOGRAPHY & ART and known online as RavePhoto. Since beginning his photographic journey around 2013\, he has accumulated more than 12\,000 hours behind the camera\, served over 1\,000 clients\, and created thousands of images across personal and commercial projects. \nOperating from his home studio in Winnipeg and travelling throughout Manitoba and across Canada\, Nik offers a wide range of services\, including weddings\, events\, family and portrait sessions\, sports photography\, product and ecommerce work\, studio shoots\, architectural and real estate photography\, and other special occasions. His portfolio also reflects a strong passion for fine art imagery\, blending technical precision with creative expression. \nKnown for his versatility and experience across multiple genres\, Nik primarily works with Nikon equipment and has built a substantial body of work over more than a decade of practice. His official website\, RavePhoto.net\, showcases his galleries\, services\, and artistic projects\, while his active social media presence under “Nik Rave” and “Nik Rave Photography” highlights ongoing work\, behind‑the‑scenes insights\, and images now found in various places around the world. \nThe presentation explores how to create low‑key photographs using minimal equipment\, a playful mindset\, and a willingness to embrace unexpected results. The technique and theme are rooted in allowing chance to shape the outcome\, producing artistic images that invite open interpretation and often lean toward minimalism. \nAlongside hands‑on practical exercises\, I will also introduce my collection titled “Visitors.” The name reflects the almost spiritual presence of nature and the elements as they reveal themselves through photography. Each image becomes a kind of visitor\, an impression\, a moment\, or an energy\, open for viewers to interpret in their own way. \nNik is  planning to bring some equipment to demonstrate the technique and provide a quick hands‑on master class for anyone who wishes to try it.  The requirements for anyone who would like to get hands‑on are: a camera with a hot shoe (brand does not matter) and a 50–100mm lens. \n

SUMMARY:Speaker - Kristine Richer via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Kristine Richer will present “Finding Light in the Dark\, The Process Behind Nightscape Photography” \nKristine Richer is a classically trained fine art photographer and educator based in Nova Scotia\, Canada\, working under the business name Kristine Rose Photography. \nShe holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and a Bachelor of Design in Interdisciplinary Design from NSCAD University\, completed in 2009. Her studies began in the darkroom and spanned a wide range of photographic genres. Following graduation\, Kristine spent 11 years working in corporate creative as a commercial product photographer and product designer\, producing imagery that was published globally in large-scale commercial print runs. \nKristine also taught photography through NSCAD University’s Extended Studies program from 2008 to 2016\, bringing nearly a decade of experience teaching adult learners into her work as an educator. \nSince transitioning to full-time fine art and education in 2020\, Kristine has focused her work on nightscape and Milky Way photography\, teaching tens of thousands of students worldwide through her online programs. She is represented by Katzman Art Projects in Nova Scotia\, and her work has been awarded NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) twice. \nLearn how strong nightscape photographs are built from the ground up\, starting with the initial idea and location planning\, through camera technique in the field\, and into the final stages of post-processing. \nKristine Richer (Kristine Rose Photography) shares how intentional choices shape successful night images\, including where to shoot\, how to approach camera settings\, and when techniques such as stacking or blending are useful. The emphasis is on understanding the why behind each decision\, helping photographers develop a clear\, repeatable process they can adapt to their own locations\, equipment\, and shooting style. \nDesigned to inspire while remaining practical\, this session offers technical insight and real-world examples photographers can apply right away. \n

SUMMARY:Speaker - Keith Putt
DESCRIPTION:Keith Putt will present “DeMystifying Macro Photography – Macro Basics in 2 Hours” \nKeith Putt is a long time member of Winnipeg South Photo Club and Manitoba Camera Club. He is responsible for Image review at WSPC. \nHe has been showing film and digital macro photos at WSPC for 20 years and will show us how to do it. \nFew WSPC and MCC members are heavily involved in macro. Why is that? Perhaps people are intimidated by stories of expense\, camera & software complexity\, steep learning curve and so on.  The truth is macro is like any other genre – start somewhere simple and gradually increase your interest\, skill\, complexity and expenditure. And what is “macro” anyway?  \nUnlike a telephoto lens\, for which there is no substitute\, there are ways to adapt most lenses to macro. The attached photos used ordinary lenses on a plain vanilla digital camera. The adapters cost $10-$50.  You can spend more and add complexity but it isn’t strictly necessary.  \nHe will describe his macro journey from zero-cost beginning to mega-buck today. He will touch on cameras\, lenses\, adapters\, lighting\, light modifiers and other gadgets. He will demonstrate several focus bracketing methods and in-camera focus stacking. \nThis is not an instructional seminar. It is simply an illustration of what is possible. \nKeith  encourages members to bring their macro gear – adapters\, lenses\, lights\, flash\, diffusers\, rails\, light booths – whatever you have. We will lay it out so people have a feeling for what is going on in the WSPC macro department. \n

SUMMARY:Speaker - Jocelyne Hebert
DESCRIPTION:Jocelyne Hebert will present “Behind the Story-A Journey from Concept to Completion” \nJocelyne Hebert\, MPA has been captivated by photography and storytelling since childhood. This \nlifelong passion gives her the artistic freedom to explore and share the beauty of the world \nthrough her lens. Specializing in portraiture\, Jocelyne thrives on the creative challenges of \nphotographic competition—pushing herself to express emotions and narratives that words alone \ncannot convey. \nStorytelling is at the heart of powerful photography. While a technically perfect image can impress\, \nit’s the story behind the photograph that creates connection. Visual storytelling brings context\, \nemotion\, and meaning to an image— transforming a simple portrait into a rich narrative\, a fleeting \nmoment into a lasting memory\, and a subject into a relatable character. \nThrough composition\, lighting\, expression\, setting\, and thoughtful detail\, photographers can \nsuggest relationships\, histories\, moods\, and ideas without saying a word. This storytelling layer \ninvites viewers to pause\, reflect\, and feel something deeper. \nUltimately\, storytelling elevates photography from documentation to art. It’s what makes an image \nmemorable\, impactful\, and emotionally resonant—because it speaks not just to the eyes\, but to the \nheart and imagination. \n
