SUMMARY:Speaker - April Stampe
DESCRIPTION:April Stampe will present “Owl Photograpy. Tips to Improve your Images and Ethics to Guide Your Practices.” \nApril Stampe lives in Winnipeg Manitoba and currently works as a Palliative care nurse. With the difficult nature of her day job\, photography helps her decompress while enjoying wildlife in the great outdoors. \nShe is a 100% self taught photographer and currently shoots with the Sony Alpha system. In general\, her photography style focuses less on individual camera settings and more on the overall composition while out in the field. Her favourite images often include a bit more of the environment around her subject\, instead of the close up shots.  \nOver the years April has had the honour of having her images selected in “Audubon’s top 100” and has been featured in “Area News” and “Canadian geographic” magazines. She has used her photography to support the Manitoba Burrowing Owl Recovery program (MBORP) and she also volunteers as a content creator for Wildlife Haven\, helping them document their work caring for sick and injured wildlife. \nWhile photography is just a hobby for her right now\, she aspires to be able to use it to support conservation efforts in Manitoba \nIn this presentation\, April will discuss general tips to help you find owls and tips to improve your images. She will go over composition\, lighting\, and how to get the best shots possible when dealing with busy twig-filled scenes. She will also spend some time discussing the importance of practicing good ethics when photographing owls and how your actions as a photographer can impact these sensitive species. She will discuss the importance of keeping locations off social media and discuss how learning the behaviour of the species you’re photographing can help you get the shots you want\, without causing stress to your subject.  \n

His photography often begins with a vision\, but it’s the surprises along the way that yield the most unforgettable moments. \n Through the Lens\, Into the Wild invites experienced photographers to explore the deeper journey of wildlife photography—from mindful preparation to ethical practice and responsible sharing. Drawing from personal encounters\, including close moments with bears\, this session covers three critical stages: pre-trip planning (including gear\, research\, and safety tools like bear spray)\, best practices during wildlife interactions (with a focus on ethics and respect)\, and post-shoot reflection (including sharing without disclosing sensitive locations). Whether you’re heading to the tundra or the treeline\, come learn and be willing to share how to photograph wildlife with awareness\, skill\, and care. \n

SUMMARY:Speaker - Nancy Kerr
DESCRIPTION:Nancy Kerr will present “Where Vision Meets Expression: My Journey in Creative Photography” \nIn 2015\, Nancy joined both the WSPC and MCC photography clubs in Winnipeg—finally \ntaking the leap after years of consideration. Her love for photography had begun \ndecades earlier\, including earning a certificate from RRCC back in the film days of the \nmid-1990s. But despite this early passion\, she hadn’t fully committed to the craft. Even \nafter moving to a DSLR in 2008\, her shooting remained sporadic. \nWhat she truly sought was a creative community—like-minded individuals who could \ninspire her to share\, grow\, and fully embrace her artistic voice. \nTen years later\, that passion has evolved into a distinctive and widely recognized \ncreative vision. Her journey\, though unintentional at first\, has led her down a path many \nnow describe as uniquely artistic and inventive. \nJoin us as Nancy shares her “accidental journey” into creative photography. \nShe’ll walk us through some of the influences that have shaped her work and reveal \nhow a casual interest blossomed into a powerful form of self-expression. \nIn this deep-dive presentation\, Nancy will: \n• Share selected works and the inspirations behind them \n• Show comparisons between final images and either the original source of \ninspiration or SOOC (Straight Out of Camera) shots \n• Pull back the curtain on several edits—layer by layer \nYou’ll gain insight into her thought process and creative workflow\, from concept to \ncompletion—or\, in some cases\, works still in progress. (After all\, is art ever truly \nfinished?) \nDon’t miss this inspiring evening with a photographer whose journey reminds us that \nsometimes the most meaningful paths are the ones we never meant to take. \nNancy’s goal is simple: \nTo inspire—not intimidate.

SUMMARY:Speaker - Hans Arnold
DESCRIPTION:Hans Arnold will present “The Great Northern Project – A Journey of Photography and Partnership \nHans has been photographing professionally since 1979 and now with an additional passion of having merged digital art with photography he inspires others to explore the new world of being technically creative with ones own camera style\, mixing that with the latest digital art software and finishing the process by printing your own work. \n \nHe is an international photography award winner and has been featured in some of Canada’s major photographic art exhibits in British Columbia\, Alberta and Ontario. As a visualist he was inspired to publish two best seller coffee table books on images of the Canadian landscape and is actively involved in CAPA and NANPA\, two of the largest photography associations in North America.\n \nHis active role in giving back what he has learned is his motivation to explore the art of photography in new and skilful ways. This process has assisted in creating his unique style of picture taking and has taught him to become prolific and updated in the fast moving world of digital fine art. \n \nHans’s current genre of photography is mainly outdoor imagery that includes landscapes\, nature and wildlife. He is self-taught in wide format print technology and produces most of his own printed fine art décor. \n \nHe currently teaches the art of seeing to young students throughout the province of Manitoba and continues to photograph what he calls a truly beautiful world. \nTwo brothers travelled 12\,000 kilometres through Canada’s Yukon\, the Northwest Territories\, and the U.S. state of Alaska to reunite\, photograph\, and explore the rugged wonders of North America. This presentation follows a journey across majestic mountain ranges\, vast tundra\, glacial valleys\, and luminous northern skies—landscapes that redefine scale and silence. Along the way people were met of the North\, listened to their stories\, and gained a deeper respect for the resilience and warmth that shape life in remote communities. \nA highlight of the adventure was experiencing the legendary Dempster Highway from Dawson City to the Arctic Ocean—an unforgettable ribbon of gravel\, weather\, and wilderness. This presentation will share images and stories of fishing remote waters\, improvising camps along rivers and lakes\, and making the best of sparse campgrounds and the occasional “nowhere to stop” night. This is also a tale of perseverance: long distances\, shifting conditions\, and the kind of roads that demand patience\, planning\, and a sense of humour. \nAt its heart\, the trip is a celebration of partnership. Like-minded brothers who have spent their adult lives as professional photographers\, always seeking images that inspire. Many of the photographs from this journey have evolved into fine art pieces—displayed\, collected\, and purchased by those who connect with the spirit of the North. \n

SUMMARY:Speaker - Nik Rave
DESCRIPTION:Nik Rev will present “Visitors” \nNik Rave is a Winnipeg‑based professional photographer and visual artist\, working under the brand NIK RAVE PHOTOGRAPHY & ART and known online as RavePhoto. Since beginning his photographic journey around 2013\, he has accumulated more than 12\,000 hours behind the camera\, served over 1\,000 clients\, and created thousands of images across personal and commercial projects. \nOperating from his home studio in Winnipeg and travelling throughout Manitoba and across Canada\, Nik offers a wide range of services\, including weddings\, events\, family and portrait sessions\, sports photography\, product and ecommerce work\, studio shoots\, architectural and real estate photography\, and other special occasions. His portfolio also reflects a strong passion for fine art imagery\, blending technical precision with creative expression. \nKnown for his versatility and experience across multiple genres\, Nik primarily works with Nikon equipment and has built a substantial body of work over more than a decade of practice. His official website\, RavePhoto.net\, showcases his galleries\, services\, and artistic projects\, while his active social media presence under “Nik Rave” and “Nik Rave Photography” highlights ongoing work\, behind‑the‑scenes insights\, and images now found in various places around the world. \nThe presentation explores how to create low‑key photographs using minimal equipment\, a playful mindset\, and a willingness to embrace unexpected results. The technique and theme are rooted in allowing chance to shape the outcome\, producing artistic images that invite open interpretation and often lean toward minimalism. \nAlongside hands‑on practical exercises\, I will also introduce my collection titled “Visitors.” The name reflects the almost spiritual presence of nature and the elements as they reveal themselves through photography. Each image becomes a kind of visitor\, an impression\, a moment\, or an energy\, open for viewers to interpret in their own way. \nNik is  planning to bring some equipment to demonstrate the technique and provide a quick hands‑on master class for anyone who wishes to try it.  The requirements for anyone who would like to get hands‑on are: a camera with a hot shoe (brand does not matter) and a 50–100mm lens. \n

SUMMARY:Speaker - Keith Putt
DESCRIPTION:Keith Putt will present “DeMystifying Macro Photography – Macro Basics in 2 Hours” \nKeith Putt is a long time member of Winnipeg South Photo Club and Manitoba Camera Club. He is responsible for Image review at WSPC. \nHe has been showing film and digital macro photos at WSPC for 20 years and will show us how to do it. \nFew WSPC and MCC members are heavily involved in macro. Why is that? Perhaps people are intimidated by stories of expense\, camera & software complexity\, steep learning curve and so on.  The truth is macro is like any other genre – start somewhere simple and gradually increase your interest\, skill\, complexity and expenditure. And what is “macro” anyway?  \nUnlike a telephoto lens\, for which there is no substitute\, there are ways to adapt most lenses to macro. The attached photos used ordinary lenses on a plain vanilla digital camera. The adapters cost $10-$50.  You can spend more and add complexity but it isn’t strictly necessary.  \nHe will describe his macro journey from zero-cost beginning to mega-buck today. He will touch on cameras\, lenses\, adapters\, lighting\, light modifiers and other gadgets. He will demonstrate several focus bracketing methods and in-camera focus stacking. \nThis is not an instructional seminar. It is simply an illustration of what is possible. \nKeith  encourages members to bring their macro gear – adapters\, lenses\, lights\, flash\, diffusers\, rails\, light booths – whatever you have. We will lay it out so people have a feeling for what is going on in the WSPC macro department. \n

SUMMARY:Speaker - Jocelyne Hebert
DESCRIPTION:Jocelyne Hebert will present “Behind the Story-A Journey from Concept to Completion” \nJocelyne Hebert\, MPA has been captivated by photography and storytelling since childhood. This \nlifelong passion gives her the artistic freedom to explore and share the beauty of the world \nthrough her lens. Specializing in portraiture\, Jocelyne thrives on the creative challenges of \nphotographic competition—pushing herself to express emotions and narratives that words alone \ncannot convey. \nStorytelling is at the heart of powerful photography. While a technically perfect image can impress\, \nit’s the story behind the photograph that creates connection. Visual storytelling brings context\, \nemotion\, and meaning to an image— transforming a simple portrait into a rich narrative\, a fleeting \nmoment into a lasting memory\, and a subject into a relatable character. \nThrough composition\, lighting\, expression\, setting\, and thoughtful detail\, photographers can \nsuggest relationships\, histories\, moods\, and ideas without saying a word. This storytelling layer \ninvites viewers to pause\, reflect\, and feel something deeper. \nUltimately\, storytelling elevates photography from documentation to art. It’s what makes an image \nmemorable\, impactful\, and emotionally resonant—because it speaks not just to the eyes\, but to the \nheart and imagination. \n
