“Need Fur Speed: Beyond The Action” (Candice Daum)

“Need Fur Speed: Beyond The Action” (Candice Daum)

November 4, 2026 at Acadia Junior High School

Candice Daum is an award-winning photographic artist who found her place by doing things a little differently. In a high-energy world, her quiet nature shaped a style grounded in observation, authenticity, thoughtful editing, and work that feels personal rather than mass-produced.

Her practice spans photography, fine art, printing, and handmade custom products—bringing a boutique sensibility to the field and giving photographs more purpose than simply sitting in a digital dungeon.

Animal sport photography is fast, unpredictable and technically demanding — but capturing a great image involves much more than simply freezing the action.

In this evening presentation, Candice Daum will explore the challenges and creative decisions involved in photographing dogs in motion, from understanding the sport and anticipating behaviour to choosing position, timing, camera settings and backgrounds. She’ll also look beyond the obvious action shots to the quieter details that can make an image memorable — expression, connection, body language and those brief interactions between a dog and their person that happen naturally and cannot truly be recreated.

Using examples from a variety of dog sports, Candice will discuss what she looks for through the viewfinder, how she approaches difficult shooting conditions, and how technical skill, observation and timing come together to create photographs that feel authentic to both the sport and the dogs participating in it.

Join us for an evening that goes beyond simply taking the photograph — and looks at how we can see animal sport images a little differently, appreciate the artistry behind the capture, and have some fun with what those photographs can become.
