“Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary” (Wendy Stephenson and Carol Zimmerman)

November 6, 2024 at 7:30

Wendy Stephenson has always loved photography. Photos of her in the family album show her as a five or six year old with a camera around her neck. Although she considered a career in photography, life took her in another direction. Today, she manages to combine her love of travel with photography. She has visited more than 35 countries and has been to every province in Canada.

Carol Zimmerman has been a member of WSPC since 2023. She developed an early interest in photography from her father who worked for Kodak. Her first camera was a Kodak Brownie; followed by a Pentax, her first manual camera; then a point and shoot digital camera; and finally moving to a mirrorless digital camera in 2019. Her main photographic interests are travel and bird/wildlife photography, and her interests often merge travelling to see and photograph birds and animals.

This past August, sisters Carol Zimmerman and Wendy Stephenson visited the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary near Prince Rupert, B.C.

The sanctuary protects over 50,000 hectares of habitat for 50-60 grizzlies.

No humans are allowed on the land. But daily zodiac excursions provided an opportunity for the sisters to photograph 10 bears, including two mothers and their cubs. Carol and Wendy will share their experiences with you.
