Wolfgang grew up in Germany where he got his first photographic experience using his father’s box camera when visiting Cologne zoo or tagging along with his grandfather when painting outdoors.
Since 1999, Wolfgang lives in Winnipeg where he works as a freshwater scientist. His job has allowed him to do photographic excursions in northern Manitoba, northwestern Ontario, and the Maritimes. In his spare time, Wolfgang regularly takes his still camera (digital since 2009) and video recorder on the road to capture images in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Russia, China, and Indonesia.
His photographic interest ranges from the abstract to landscape and wildlife imaging, and the documentation of the human condition in its interconnection with the environment.
Presentation: “Cuba – beyond the beaches”
The presentation documents parts of Wolfgang and Beth’s travels in Cuba in February of 2016. The journey starts at Varadero airport. Travelling by bus, airplane, and local means of transport, the route follows a general path from northwest (Havana) to southeast (Baracoa), concluding with a final few days at the western tip of the island (Vinales).
Images showcase Cuban landscapes as well as the daily life of Cuban people: their ingenuity to make a living under changing conditions, and their warm and welcoming nature.
